The presidents of France ( Macron) and Germany have sharply condemned US foreign policy under Donald Trump, saying respectively that Washington was “breaking free from international rules” and the world risked turning into a “robber’s den”.
This is Big Mac’s way of cryptically saying, ” This world is mine. This is my house. My Temple! Dear Donald, you are making my House into a “Den of Thieves” and I will need to cleanse it one way or the other”.
A “den of robbers” (or thieves) refers to a place where people engage in corrupt, exploitative, or unlawful activities, often hiding behind a facade of legitimacy, famously used by Jesus to describe the Temple in Jerusalem where religious leaders had turned it into a marketplace for profit, not prayer. The term originates from the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah, who warned that God’s house had become a refuge for wickedness, combining scripture with a critique of hypocrisy and greed.
